Christ Our Passover

By Sam Adeyemi

1 Corinthians 5:7

God asked the children of Israel to sacrifice a lamb and smear the blood on their doorposts on the night prior to their deliverance from Egypt. This was a re-enactment of God’s covenant with Abraham. Now the essence of a blood covenant is oneness with God. When God created man, He created him with limits and designed it such that through God’s influence, Man could exercise dominion on this earth. Furthermore, as soon as Adam and Eve sinned, God covered them with the skins of animals and by implication, it meant animals were killed. Therefore establishing that for Man to continue in a relationship with God, then sacrifice was required. The blood would cover man’s sins and man would be in a covenant with God because it is only through oneness with God that man will be able to confront and dominate his circumstances. When we come into a covenant with God we become one with God. The only way for Abraham for instance to overcome his limitation of barrenness was for him to become one with God through having a covenant with God. This is why covenants were cut in the past between the weak party and the strong party so that in becoming one, they can leverage their strengths. Once Abraham and Sarah became one with God, the realities of their body couldn’t stop the production of a child; hence Abraham fathered a child at a hundred years old while Sarah was ninety years. Circumcision was equally introduced to Abraham and it’s significant that even in our culture the child was circumcised and named on the eighth day and back then God’s name was added to the name given the child which meant that if you called the name bearer you were equally calling on God to show up.

What God actually wants is a relationship and that’s why He created man. Adam and Eve lost that relationship and God created a way for it to be restored through the blood covenant.

Thousands of years after the Israelites celebrated the Passover, Christ will celebrate the Passover with his disciples; Matthew 26:26-29. They understood the essence of the Passover as captured in Exodus 12:11-13. The beautiful thing is that Christ; our own Passover lamb has been sacrificed for us. Once the blood covenant was activated, it meant that each Israelite and God became one; the first result was that their status changed because even though the Israelites could be shackled but not with God because God can’t be chained or enslaved hence, their status changed from being slaves to freemen. Our Passover lamb, Christ has been slain and we are now one with God. Hence, whatever negative label had been placed on us that cannot be placed on God has expired because we are now one with God. The Israelite that was a slave died when the lamb died; the lamb took the place of the Israelite. Similarly, when Christ died, we died. Hence, the you that should have been a slave died; the you that owed satan something is dead as well.

Psalms 105:14-15 is a rehash of what happened to Israel as they moved from Egypt to the land flowing with milk and honey; God rebuked kings for their sake and He said ‘touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm’. This injunction wasn’t just for the prophets, priests or kings; it was for the whole lot of the Israelites and by extension for all Christians and not just pastors.

Once you and God become one, no system built by man or the devil can stop you any longer. Our status change is real but the problem is our mindset. The anointing we don’t believe in won’t work for us. What God requires of us is faith. We and God are now one. Also, there is a kingdom health system and sickness cannot hang around you when you and God have become one. Similarly, your warfare is accomplished because God fights for you while you hold your peace.
