Open Eyes

This year, as declared, is the Year of Possibilities. But what unlocks these possibilities? It begins with a simple yet profound prayer: “Lord, open my eyes.”

This prayer is not just about physical sight; it is a cry for spiritual clarity, for revelation, and for the ability to see beyond the challenges of the present into the promises of the future.

In Ephesians 1:18, Paul prays for the church in Ephesus, asking that

“the eyes of their understanding be enlightened.”

This scripture reminds us that the path to endless possibilities is paved with revelation. When we have opened eyes, we begin to see what God sees: hope, purpose, and the riches of His inheritance in us.

How can this profound truth transform our lives?

1. Open Eyes See Beyond the Storm

Life’s storms can blind us, making us think we’re perishing. The disciples faced this very struggle when a storm arose as they journeyed with Jesus across the lake (Mark 4:35-41). Their physical eyes saw chaos, but Jesus remained at peace because He saw the other side.

2. Open Eyes Align Us with God’s Vision

In Acts 10, Peter had a vision that challenged his understanding of God’s plan. Though initially resistant, Peter’s spiritual eyes were opened to the new thing God was doing. Similarly, we must pray, “Lord, let my eyes be opened to Your ways,” so we don’t cling to the old when God is ushering us into the new.

3. Open Eyes Empower Us to Overcome Fear

Fear thrives in darkness and ignorance. But when our eyes are open, the light of God’s truth dispels fear. Fear cannot prevail when we see through the lens of God’s promises.

4. Open Eyes Bring Restoration

The Bible promises beauty for ashes and joy for mourning (Isaiah 61:3). These are not just poetic words but divine realities for those with open eyes. When we see through the eyes of faith, we understand that loss is temporary and restoration is guaranteed.

5. Open Eyes Are a Gateway to Clarity and Direction

We gain clarity for the path ahead when our eyes are opened. Whether it’s a decision about family, career, or ministry, God is ready to show us the way if we ask that our eyes be opened.
