Unity in Diversity. There’s an interesting story in Genesis chapter 11 that demonstrates the tremendous power we generate when we pursue our objectives in unity. The people of that time decided to build a great city and a monumental tower and then God responded.

Look, he said, the people are united and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them. (Genesis 11:5 NLT)

There is power in that passage, when you have a group of people, a team, a couple, or a family that are united in purpose, hardly anything can stop them. In verse 5, humans agreed to do something and then God saw it, and they got His attention. How did they get God’s attention? Because they were united in purpose and vision. God confirmed the tremendous power we generate when we operate in unity.

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed (Ecclesiastes 4:9 NLT)

Two people are better than one. And Christ described the massive leverage that we have as believers, including a couple or family, the massive leverage we can get when we pray in unity. Matthew 18:19 NLT. When there is agreement of purpose, when there is unity of vision, we release tremendous power. And God made a promise that what you ask, he will do it. God created marriage for the multiplication of grace and effectiveness, He didn’t create marriage to be endured. He created marriage such that when two people come into it, they are multiplied, their effectiveness is multiplied. In Genesis 11, God moved against the project because what they were after was not according to His purpose. What they were pursuing was selfish.

If you read back verse four of Genesis 11, it says, come let’s build a city for ourselves. A tower that reaches into the sky, this will make us famous and keep us from being scattered. And that was not God’s plan. One of the greatest prayer you can pray is that God’s will will be done. Sometimes the issues we fight over in our marriages and relationships are not worth the fight. You can win the battle and lose the war. You can win the battle, win the argument and lose the person. Once you see anything that is going to disrupt the peace in your home, you must quickly nip it in the bud.
