What does it take to be a person of value? Value is the importance, worth or use of something. It is also the monetary worth of a thing.
God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
~ Genesis 1:17-18 (NLT)
God has never created something worthless, everything He has created has value, including you.
In Genesis 1, when God created things, He said they were ‘Good’, so they were valuable to Him.
The death and resurrection of Christ attest to the value that God has placed on us. Your status in Christ adds greater value to your life, because you are an upgraded version of your former self.
Some things we can do to bring value are:
- You need to believe and acknowledge that you have value.
- You need to identify your uniqueness: Different organisations often sell the same products, but there unique takes on each product attract people to pay for the product.
- Discover your purpose or the functionality of your gifts: Ask yourself, “what is my purpose?”
- Find areas where you can contribute with your gifts: What problems can you solve? deploy your gifts, skills and talents consistently, use them at every turn and solve people’s problem.
- Increase your contribution and serve more people.
- Invest in yourself so that your value can increase.
- Uphold the correct values in your service to people.
Can people lose value or diminish in value?
You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
~ Matthew 5:13
- When you think you have nothing to offer or give to others: Some people only focus on what to get, not what to give, they are entitled. Some other people neglect what they have and are busy looking at what other people have, they are not introspective. When you think you don’t have anything to offer, whether it is due to self-centredness, bad self-image or neglect of your gift, it will eventually lead to low self-esteem, low self-worth and eventually, low net worth.
- When you don’t use what you have to perform the functions for which you are created, like the salt in Matthew 5:13
- When you don’t walk by principle.
- When you are stale: when your information and ideas are stale, you loose value. It means you no longer have access to revelation.
Pay attention to revelation and when you get it, mix it with your brain.
