Persistent Prayer IV

Elijah heard rain when there was not a cloud in the sky.

After three years of drought, he told Ahab that a mighty rainstorm was coming (1 Kings 18:41-46).

What he heard was spiritual, and it came after God had spoken. So he prayed, and he kept sending his servant to look toward the sea until, on the seventh time, a cloud the size of a man’s hand finally appeared.

Think about it. The order never changes: you pray, God speaks, a new reality is created spiritually, and then you pray it into physical manifestation.

Mark 11:24 tells us to believe that we have received it, so pray until you have peace and faith and know that God has answered. Then keep going with bold action until you see it.

But look at what Elijah was praying about. He was grieved by the state of his nation, and James 5:16-18 calls him a righteous man whose earnest prayer has great power.

That level of prayer does not work with self-centred requests (James 4:3). It works when we side with God and want His values to prevail. Elijah became a national problem solver, and we are still talking about him today.

Here’s the challenge: begin this week with that posture. Pray for the nation and for God’s values to prevail, and keep praying until you have your answer.

That is what Daystar’s 7-day, 24-hour prayer chain is for. It runs from Monday, October 26 to Sunday, November 1, under the theme “shameless persistence”. Choose a specific hour each day and join the church’s prayer platform.

Hear it, pray it down, and keep looking until the cloud appears.

What are you pressing into during the prayer chain?
