Blossoming through the covenant. God taught us how to keep covenants. When you cut a blood covenant it makes you one with the person you do so with. In Genesis 15, Abraham asked God how his covenant with him would come to pass. God told him his descendants would be as many as the stars in the sky He told Abraham that the promise he had given him could never fail. When you become one with God you are elevated, and everything changes about you. What is God’s motive for teaching us the blood covenant? His motive is love. God could have killed Adam and Eve and created new humans when they sinned in the Garden of Eden, but he still stuck by them and gave them a way through a blood covenant. God’s motive for entering a covenant with you is love.
Ephesians 5:25-33. Sacrificial love is the motive for the blood covenant that God has with us. Once you take away the love you are only left with religion, and religion tells you that you have to follow a set of rules before you are loved by God. There are no rules we have to follow, God’s love for us is not based on anything we do. God is fiercely committed to us because he loves us, he doesn’t do one night stands. (Zephaniah 3:17NLT, Psalm 89:20-28)
Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. -Matthew 22:36-38 NLT
