Praise is the celebration of the qualities or accomplishments of someone or something. It is an expression of approval and admiration and it works. Through this month we’ll be showing how praise has an effect on God you and I and believe it or not even on Satan.
Isn’t it amazing that Christ taught us to start and end prayer with praise? Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV. Jesus taught us to use the sandwich method in prayer. If you want to get God’s attention in prayer, start with praise, put your petitions in between and end with praise. Praise gives God personal value, of all the things that God tells us to do and not to do, a lot of them have nothing to do with Him personally but with other people. Praise on the other hand is something that God gets personally, it is personal value that God derives from us and that’s why we need to pay attention to it.
- Praise is an expression of Love to God. It gives God intangible value. God said the greatest commandment is love
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Matthew 22:37-39NLT)
In our relationship with God we should not focus only on being takers. For God so loved the world that He GAVE, giving is the basic proof of love. Giving is a major way to celebrate that you recognize value. How would you show your love for God? By giving praise.
Psalm 69:29-31NLT. With all the sacrifices that they used to perform under the Old covenant, the Psalmist recognized that praise was more valuable to God than all those cattle. Hebrews 13:15 NLT. When you really really love someone you give them a lot of what they want. God likes gratitude, let’s give Him loads and loads of it. In the story of the 10 lepers that Christ healed, it was only one that came back to give thanks. Christ spoke about it because He valued it
- Praise defines God’s position and gives Him recognition. (Psalm 100:4 NLT) With praise we put God first and define His position and when we put Him first, everything else falls into place.
- Praise is one of the languages of faith. Praise pleases God and moves Him to unleash His love towards us. And His love is manifested through joy, peace, wisdom, favour and miracles.
