Flourishing Forever. In Genesis 25 we read the story, the classic example of long-term and short-term thinking in the story of Esau and Jacob. If you look well around now, these two categories of people are still around us. You have the people who are always thinking short-term. So, Esau brought present satisfaction, but Jacob brought future success. The most successful people are the ones who bring long-term perspective into their day-to-day decisions. So, the question is, are you pursuing only success in this life?

Jesus said in Matthew 16:26 “What will it benefit someone to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”. Jesus was earthly relevant while still putting His focus on the hereafter. You may be thinking ‘This one life, I have not figured it out, and you’re talking about living forever.’ We must not look at the troubles we can see now, rather, we must fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. Whatever it is that you are going through, it has expiry dates.

Good news, you can flourish here and in the life to come. Hallelujah. Isn’t that beautiful? So note there, don’t forget godliness, developing spiritual habits, developing your relationship, having a vital relationship with God gives dividend here and in eternity. You may be asking, what if there’s no life after this one? I’ll say, I will ask you to, what if there is one? You have to think about both ‘what ifs’, you don’t want to gamble your life away and your eternity away.

For example, if a year ago somebody had asked, what if the government devalues the currency? But then another may have asked, what if the government does not? But from a logical standpoint, which would be better? Prepare for the two of course.

So in essence, we’re saying it is better to flourish in this life and in the one to come. You don’t have to choose one.
