Building Intimacy With The Holy Spirit- By Pastor Segun Ladokun

This August theme,  takes us on a spiritual journey focused on The Holy Spirit. In yesterday’s Mid-week Service,  Pastor Segun Ladokun reminds us that the Holy Spirit isn’t just a vague force. He is a person, the third person of the Trinity, sent to dwell in us. He is our Teacher, Helper, and Comforter.

Starting from Isaiah 32:14-15, Pastor Segun explains how life may seem barren or unproductive until the Spirit is poured out. Just as the Spirit hovered at creation, He continues to bring life and order wherever He is welcomed.

The Teacher:
Referencing John 14:26, we’re reminded that the Holy Spirit teaches us all things, from interpreting Scripture to handling real-life challenges like dealing with difficult people or navigating tough decisions. He is our divine tutor, ever-present and patient. He guides us gently but powerfully, bringing God’s truth to light in our daily experiences.

The Helper:
the Holy Spirit is described as one who helps us pray, even when we have no words. Pastor Segun encouraged us to lean on the Spirit for strength in every area, parenting, relationships, career choices. Like a GPS, He leads us when life feels confusing or overwhelming.

The Comforter:
When disappointment hits , the loss of a loved one, a failed opportunity, or a delay in our expectations, the Holy Spirit steps in. He doesn’t always change the circumstance instantly, but He brings peace that surpasses understanding (John 14:27, Philippians 4:6-7). His presence quiets fear and stabilizes us in the storm.

How to Build Intimacy with the Holy Spirit:

1. Talk to Him Daily : Prayer is a two-way conversation.
2. Acknowledge His Presence : In every decision, big or small.
3. Listen and Obey : Be sensitive to His nudges and promptings.
4. Invite Him In : Into your daily plans and activities.
5. Wait Patiently : Spiritual growth takes time and intentionality.

Avoiding Hindrances to Intimacy:

Sin, disobedience, neglect, busyness, and spiritual noise can hinder our fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Pastor Segun emphasized that developing intimacy requires honesty, stillness, and consistency, it’s about cultivating a friendship, not just ticking a spiritual checklist.

The Holy Spirit is not a guest in your life , He is your daily companion. As you open your heart, slow down, and invite Him in, you’ll begin to experience His teaching, help, and comfort in deeper, transformative ways.

Let this be your daily prayer: “Holy Spirit, be my teacher, my helper, and my comforter. Lead me daily. I welcome your presence”. Watch the sermon here.
