What are the advantages of walking in love? When Jesus was about to ascend to heaven, He challenged His disciples to adopt a new covenant centred on love.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
~ John 13:34-35 NIV
Christ loved us by dying for our sins on the cross. Just as Pastor Boye said on Sunday, we also need to demonstrate love through sacrificial giving.
Prior to Christ dying for our sins, we operated on the principle of revenge; “an eye for an eye.” But Jesus came and showed us love, and encouraged us to spread love to others as well, so as to distinguish ourselves as people of God.
Anyone who chooses love, in whatever circumstance they find themselves, will always have the upper-hand. With love, we are always victorious. But this victory is not always the way we see it, it’s the way God sees it.
Just like when Christ died and the church thought it was a loss but it was victory. When you operate at the level of love, you operate at a higher level and that is what God is calling us to.
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy’. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
~ Matthew 5:43-48
The advantages of walking in love:
- Your faith will work because your love is genuine. Galatians 5:6 (NIV).
If you don’t exhibit love, there is a way it affects your prayer life, it impacts your faith negatively. Love is what leads our christianity.
- Your prayers get answered. Mark 11:22-26 (NIV).
When you harbour bitterness, unforgiveness, or hatred, it hinders your prayers, and you hold yourself down.
- You grow spiritually. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV).
Spiritually growth is not about what you know, but about what you do. If you know the entire Bible, and it doesn’t show in your character, then you have not grown spiritually.
- It helps you enjoy life and see good days. 1 Peter 3:8-12 (NIV).
A lot of people don’t enjoy the fullness of their life, because they refuse to walk in love. Through love, you can break free from these hinderances and enjoy good days.
- It protects you from evil.
When you don’t walk in love you make yourself available to the devil, you give him an opportunity to strike at you. When you walk in love, you are protected from evil.
- It helps you to live a long life. (Deuteronomy 4:40)
- Walking in love makes you a person of value.
