How To Be Marriage Material. When someone is good enough to be a husband or wife, we say they are ‘marriage material’. (Proverbs 18:22 NLT). This doesn’t only apply to singles, for married people, consider ‘How to remain marriage material’. (1 Samuel 16:7). Generally when it comes to the issue of who to marry, the idea is, don’t start from the outside. God spoke to Samuel and helped him separate inner beauty from outer beauty. We must learn how to develop inner beauty although physical beauty and attraction are also important.
Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. (1 Peter 3:3-4 NLT)
Be a person of value, your real value is not external to you, it is the intangible part. Outer beauty fades with time but the inner one is where the power is. The Apostle Peter was recorded to be married but he still advises that we not focus on external beauty. A spiritually beautiful person is loving, caring and empathetic like God. You can become like that by being filled and submitted to the spirit of God. In Galatians 5:23-23 we see the fruits of the spirit, these things are what will come out of us when we have the Holy Spirit.
Don’t be critical of others, don’t be someone that is always criticizing and finding fault with people. (Matthew 7:1-5 MSG). Nobody likes to be around people that run them down, it makes them defensive all the time. Compliment others, if you want to be attractive to other people then you must have something nice to say about them. Be humble (Philippians 2:3-4) there is no one that doesn’t have weaknesses but don’t be the one to point out peoples weaknesses.
Develop your outward beauty too, groom properly. Be actively serving somewhere and use your gifts so people can see you. It doesn’t matter whether you are an introvert or extrovert be a value adding person, the likelihood that you will be attractive to other people is quite high. If you are married already don’t let things depreciate, continue to look good for your spouse. Have the fear of God and pray to have a partner who God can speak to as well.
