Family Success. What can someone leave for others that will withstand the test of time? What can you bequeath to others to ensure success regardless of the season?
What Christ left for us are Values, those kingdom values have lasted over 2000 years and distinguish Christ’s followers from others. Values shape our thoughts, actions and beliefs, and they eventually become our culture.
Nations are built on values, but it begins with Individual values. The values of a man and woman who come together and put these values into their children who carry the values back into society.
This is the message you have heard from the beginning; we should love one another.(1 John 3:11 NLT)
Love and devotion to God are some of the key values that shaped the early church.
How do we teach Godly values to our children
- Model it: Children imitate our actions, they hear with their eyes, you can preach all the time to them but it’s what they see you do that they will do as well.
- Praise it: (Matthew 3:17 NLT) We should be quick at catching them do things right. Children should not only hear your voice when they do things wrong, praise them. Celebrate them when they show good values.
- Reward it: Reward consistent good behaviour.
- Reinforce values: Jesus used every opportunity to reinforce values in His disciples. Watch out for opportunities to reinforce godly values in your children.
If we are not happy with how our society looks at the moment, then we need to go back to where the journey began; at home. All you see happening in society today are products of positive or negative values.
I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace. (Isaiah 54:13 NLT)
When our values are shaped by the word of God, we can withstand the onslaught of the devil.
