We are called to be people of influence, to influence our world in the right direction. God is not going to hide you, you are light. You are here to influence.
You are here to be a salt seasoning that brings out the God-flavours. If you put salt in a pot of soup, it influences the taste. Salt preserves, and it gives flavour.
When light reaches darkness, it illuminates. Light brings illumination, it brings direction, and it influences.
Influence is the capacity to have an effect on the character development and behaviour of someone. As a person of influence, you are expected to affect the behaviour of someone.
What do you have to do to become a person of influence?
- Know who you are:
Life will ask, “Who are you”? If you can’t define yourself, life will define you. In Acts 19:15, the seven sons of Sceva went to a madman, and the demon in him asked them, “Who are you?”
Life will tell you all sorts of things, but if you don’t know who you are, you will not be able to affirm who you really are. John 1:19-23. How do you define yourself?
- Identify your sphere of influence:
Religion, Family, Government, Education, Media, Sports, Arts and Entertainment, Business, Economy, Science and Technology are all different spheres that shape our society today. Where has God sent you?
- Brand yourself and identify your touchpoint:
A touchpoint is a way brands reach out to their target market. It allows the brand to be seen by prospective customers. Matthew 5:15
Do not hide what God has equipped you. You are a light bearer. The Holy Spirit is the ultimate influencer, and He is the one that will influence and amplify your light.
