Family Success. About a month ago, there was an incidence that had the whole world talking, the rumoured divorce of a popular footballer and his wife. Everyone talked about it non stop and had many opinions about it. Of course, people always have opinions about other people’s marriages but what is God’s opinion about your marriage?
When you become a follower of Jesus Christ, you submit to Him and His values become your values.
The process of supernatural fruitfulness that God has given us is that we are required to totally submit everything to God, then the Holy Spirit renews us and we are able to produce results that we couldn’t before.
The Holy Spirit is our support when we go through things that can tear a marriage apart. He gives us capacity for kindness, generosity, selflessness – You just cannot afford to be selfish in your marriage, it’ll destroy it. He gives us the capacity for endurance because there are no perfect marriages and there are no perfect people. You will offend each other at some point but the Holy Spirit gives us the capacity to bear with each other’s weaknesses.
When we were younger a lot of us read romance novels that ended in the very predictable line “…and they lived happily ever after”. Human nature cannot produce most of the fantasies we have about marriage, we have to rely on the Holy spirit for healthy marriages.
(Galatians 5:17&18)
We are all flawed, but when the Holy Spirit comes in, He gives us the capacity to escape the limitations of our human nature. This is why our emphasis should be on yielding to the Holy Spirit in our marriages.
Your destiny is unique, you need to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit and not the opinions of other people. Some of us need to change our way of thinking and be free from cultural programming if we want to experience fruitfulness and a healthy marriage (Psalm 1:1-3)
